China Doll Revival?

One of the main goals of HommeMystere has been to continually expand the range of lingerie we design for our clients.  That means we complete a single manufacturing run of a style and then never go back and make exactly the same style again.

There have been a couple of variations on this idea such as the Miranda being a very similar pattern to Genevieve, and Rachel also being close to the same style.

I also do plan to do another style of the Frill set although it will likely be the thong, panty and a padded bra in a different color.

But this week I received an email from Shane in the USA who said he always liked the China Doll set but found the site too late to get one.  Shane also said there was some mention of the China Doll on other sites and forums where guys were interested in getting a set.  This isn’t the first time I’ve received a request for the China Doll.  Every now and again someone sends an email and I have apologise for not having one in their size.

So here’s a bit of background on the China Doll.  It was the first ‘large’ production run we did of a particular style and our first time using a manufacturer in China.  The name came from the fact is was made in China but more so after the David Bowie song of which I’m a fan.  It was one of the turning points for HommeMystere going from small local runs to importing and learning about large factory manufacturing.

It certainly didn’t go too smoothly but starting a lingerie business for guys was never going to be a straightforward business plan!  The China Doll did run very very small, the panty is low at the front but overall, the look is quite nice and it is/was quite comfortable.  The China Doll bra has large cups which turned out to be a positive for our female model at the time – she was so impressed with the bra and the wing design she took a couple for herself!

So I’m in two minds at the moment.  Do we do another run on China Doll?  Do we sacrifice a new style and color for another China Doll set? To do it again would mean making the bras larger in the band and I would also change the panty pattern slightly to make it higher at the front.  And do you guys really want a full bra that has a cup size that large?

There is still time.  I’m still in the planning stages for the second half of this year and will be back at the factory in China to work on the patterns and plans in March.  Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Valentines Day Gifts and Tips!

So you’re looking for something to buy your guy for Valentines day.  First, let’s work out where your guy sits in the world of lingerie-

* Is he into lingerie but he keeps a low profile because you’re not into it?

* Perhaps you’re both open minded and love dressing up and having some fun?

If you’re both into lingerie then the easy answer is sit down with your guy and choose something together.  If you prefer to make it a surprise then you will likely know what styles he likes and doesn’t like.  Looking for something feminine in a full set? Try Anneve.  Want something comfortable and fun?  Try a Katie Romper.  Want a comfortable set that’s a little subtle?  Retro is the best bet.

Is your guy one of our lingerie fans.  Can’t wait for the next new release and has a bit of everything in the drawer?  If you know our business model then you will understand that once we sell out of something then it’s gone for good.  If your guys has a drawer full of our lingerie then find out what he loves best!  Shouldn’t be too hard because he’ll be favoring that special pair of panties or that bra or teddy all the time.  Just find out what it is and purchase a couple of them so he has spares before we run out of stock!

How to measure yourself (for lingerie)

One of the comments you often hear in regard to lingerie is that it’s beautiful, but uncomfortable.  Our goal has always been to create lingerie that was not only beautiful, but comfortable enough to wear all day.

Comfort and fit can be pretty subjective for individuals.  Some guys like to wear lingerie and be aware they are wearing it at all times under daily outerwear.  For others, choosing what lingerie to wear each day is part of the fun, as is getting undressed in the evening.  However through the day they want to concentrate on work or whatever needs to be done without the distraction of underwear that isn’t the best fit.

At Hommemystere we’ve always tried to create lingerie that provided a mix of fun and practicality.  The size information we provide is specific to each garment because the fabric and elastics used to make each garment have their own variations.

The most important thing to know is your own measurements.  And that doesn’t mean knowing your measurements ten years ago when you were going through that fitness phase or even 12 months ago.  It’s knowing your measurements today.  That will give you the best chance of getting the right size in the garment of your choice.

Once you know your measurements, think about the kind of fit you prefer.  Some guys like a very firm fit that really holds everything in place tightly.  Other guys prefer a more relaxed fit.  Something that is barely noticeable.

Tracy has arrived

What a great time to release some swimwear! Our friends in the northern hemisphere are freezing so the only practical place for many will be in a nicely warmed up spa.
